As you approach sexual intimacy both biological and colour changes occur. Blood begins to infuse the skin because of the increase in sexual desire making the skin become, to a lesser or greater degree, pink or red. With arousal blood flows from the deeper areas of the body to the surface areas. The softer areas of the body become engorged and enlarged. With this rush of blood we feel warm and there is heightened sensitivity over the entire body. At this point we are so aware of the lightest touch. Make sure it is a light touch you give your partner. Being heavy handed is inappropriate overkill.
For some people, the flushing is very pronounced. It is a bright measles-like reddening most commonly seen in women. It begins on the skin over the stomach and upper abdomen, spreads to the upper part of the breasts, then the upper chest, then to the sides and middle region of the breasts, and finally the undersides of the breasts. Often the face and neck are also coloured as Desmond Morris points out in The Human Animal and his earlier book, The Naked Ape.
